Re: structural repair to Volga 70
When I was modifying my hull, I cut a piece off and had it sent out to be analyzed. It turns out to be an Aluminum/Magnesium alloy very similar to what is used to build oil rig supply boats in the Gulf of Mexico. I was able to get a piece of 5086/5083-H116 and it welds beautifully to the existing hu...

Volga is finished in the water!!!!
After many fits and starts, my Volga is finished and in the water. Here is a link to a Picasa web album that chronicles the journey from wreck to restored. Amazingly, it completely exceeded all of my expectations (with the exception of handling near the dock!) I can understand why one person added t...

Volga Rubber Bumpers
I finally finished my boat. It looks amazing. It's out having a trailer built at the moment. Should be back home in 3 weeks. I had a die made to extrude the rubber bumper that runs around the side. It is an improvement, as I designed it so you can install it in one piece that wraps around the bow - ...

Re: Chrome rub rail

I just had an extrusion die made in China. They have extruded four sample pieces of rubber channel - 25 meters long. It should ship to me in the next 3 weeks. Assuming it fits, I will post pictures. It will be very inexpensive to produce a lot of rub rail.

Float test!
We accomplished a crucial test yesterday by leak checking the Volga. It turned out to be a royal pain to find a traveling lift to drop it in the water, but we ultimately found one in San Francisco. The good news is that none of the 75 through-hull penetrations for the foils leak! The parts we had re...

Almost out of paint booth!
2 more weeks, and I will have it back in the shop for final assembly. The main colors and striping are on, and we are finishing the graphics. The interior was done by a famous car designer, and looks amazing. I just hope that after all this work, it is water tight! The boat was a complete disaster w...

I need to replace the black rubber rail that circles the perimeter of the entire hull. Does anyone have a good source for a replacement, or do I need to extrude a new one??

Re: Volga test report (1965)
For those who don't read German - here are the highlights of the article in English... _____________________________________________________________________ - USSR only place that builds a sportsboat in hydrofoil format - Technically, doesn’t glide, but really flies above the water, leading to a smo...

scanned line drawings?
Hi Everyone: I am very close to finishing the restoration/radical modernization of my Volga. (I live in San Francisco, California.) All of the mechanical work has been completed, and I am about to begin the paint/interior. It has the potential to be pretty amazing, and I want it to resemble my aerob...

my volga restoration project
I'm finally getting close (around 6 months) from having the boat back in the water. All of the major mechanical work is complete: the boat is re-powered, the systems have been designed, and we are close to complete on fabrication. Couple of things for people thinking of restoring boats: I ended up m...
